Nidarshana Vedh Ayurveda is one of a family of sites run by Nidarshana Vedh from Gujarat, India. The others cover Vedic astrology, the Jain calendar and astronomy, modern astrology and numerology and Vastu Shastra. This one is about Ayurveda.

What we are, and what we are not

We read the classical sources and explain them in plain English. We are not doctors, we are not Ayurvedic practitioners, and the site does not offer consultations, diagnosis, treatment or products. We do not sell herbs, supplements or oils, and we do not take payment from companies that do. If you need medical care, please see a qualified doctor, and in India a registered Ayurvedic practitioner (BAMS). Our medical disclaimer says more.

How we write

  • Education first. We explain what the tradition teaches and the reasoning behind it, in language a newcomer can follow.
  • Tradition stated as tradition. A claim from the texts is attributed to the texts. We write “the Ashtanga Hridayam teaches” or “the tradition classes this as”, and we do not write it as fact about your body.
  • No cure claims. We never say that a herb, food, oil or practice treats, cures, prevents or detoxifies. If modern research has looked at the question, we say what it found, including when it found little.
  • Safety first. Every topic that touches health points to a doctor. Every herb guide carries its cautions, including interactions with medicines and use in pregnancy and childhood.
  • Calm. We do not use fear to make a point, and we do not tell readers that they have an imbalance that only we can fix.
  • Honest about disagreement. Ayurvedic teachers differ, regions differ and translations differ. Where sources disagree, we say so.

How the site is built

The site is fast, has no advertising and does not sell your data. Its free tools run in your browser. The method and sources page lists the texts we draw on and explains how corrections are made. The privacy policy and cookie policy say what we collect and why.
